Julio Barbosa is the founder and partner of Barbosa Legal and he is licensed to practice law in the United States and in Brazil and is a member of The Florida Bar and the Brazilian Bar Association (“OAB”).  Julio began practicing law over 35 years ago in Brazil and has spent most of his career focused on helping foreign clients, who want to do business in the United States, from business entities to individuals.

Through the years Julio has published several articles on a variety of topics, both in English and Portuguese, as well as three books in Portuguese (two as co-author). He also wrote “How to Export to the United States,” a guide through the complexities of doing business with American companies, “The Painful (and Taxing) Realities of Doing Business in Brazil,” and “Arbitration Law in Brazil: An Inevitable Reality.”

Julio has extensive experience in International Taxation and International Transactions.  He has been assisting clients in a variety of cross-border transactions in Latin America and in the United States, from the distribution of products, and the creation of subsidiaries, to large investments in real estate properties.

In addition to the comprehensive legal services to foreign companies and business people who wish to do business in the United States, Julio is also able to assist Americans who wish to do business in Latin America through his close and long-standing relationships with some of the best lawyers and consultants in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Colombia. These relationships allow him to provide complete legal services to clients throughout those countries, with comparative legal and regulatory analyses relevant to the matter at hand.

He has been invited as a featured speaker in more than a dozen countries throughout the Americas to discuss international trade, international taxation, arbitration, establishing entities and doing business in the United States.and he is licensed to practice law in the United States and Brazil. Ted Brooks is an Of Counsel at Barbosa Legal. Ted brings vast knowledge of U.S. and non-U.S. tax laws to the team. His experience includes working at both private and public companies and law firms developing strategic tax planning initiatives for businesses and investors, international corporate treasury centers, intellectual property development structures, hedge funds and asset management vehicles, joint ventures, structured financing and intricate M&A transactions.

Ted has been at the helm of many successful companies   and is a frequent speaker on U.S., international and cross-border taxation. He is also a member of the Advisory Boards for several high-growth technology companies and is a board member of Icing Smiles, a non-profit organization that provides custom cakes to critically ill children and their families to celebrate their special day.
